What it means for travellers

  • Bumla is open to Indian nationals only; foreign visitors cannot go.
  • Only Tawang-registered taxis can run the Bumla route, so a car hired in Guwahati usually stops in Tawang and you switch for the day.
  • The road can close at short notice after snow. Keep a spare day in Tawang in winter.
  • You still need the Arunachal Inner Line Permit to enter the state.
